So what does that mean? My job is to teach dogs what people like (not jumping up and not barking too much) and to teach families what dogs like (not being hugged or bothering them when they’re eating). We do this so that everyone can be really happy together and nobody needs to be scared or worried or upset. We would like to show you how you can do YOUR part.
While most bite prevention programs focus on what to do when a stray or aggressive dog approaches a child, I Speak Doggie represents a whole new take on dog safety.
Developed by The Family Dog, I Speak Doggie is a simple, fun and interactive program that focuses on teaching kids how to stay safe around the dogs they know and love.
You’ll learn what dogs like and how to ‘Speak Doggie’ – because HAVING FUN and STAYING SAFE with your own dog and dogs EVERYWHERE is what it’s all about!
When 50% of our children are being bitten by a dog by the time they are 12 years old and 77% of bites come from their family or a friend’s dog – that’s an opportunity for education that anyone who loves kids or dogs simply cannot ignore. They’re staggering statistics and ones I want to help change – that’s why I present the Stop the 77% programs in schools.
Children are by far the most common victims of dog bites, but studies show that educating kids on how to act around dogs significantly increases appropriate behaviour and will save a life!
